The easiest way to solve this problem is to pick numbers that are easy to increase by 10%.

If we pretend the original length of each side is 10, then a 10% increase makes each side 11.

The area of the square with each side 10 is:

10 x 10 = 100

The area of the square with each side 11 is:

11 x 11 = 121

Since the original area was 100 and the new area is 121, this is a 21% percent increase. The answer is C) 21%
